Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable.
Now if you’re a fan of the show you know we’re on hiatus through the summer while I work with the new owners of THE DECK in Blandford. We’re just a few weeks away from our Grand Opening of what’s sure to be the sweetest spot on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. I sure hope you’ll stick around for the second half of our show when The Sidekick joins me to chat about what’s on the menu for the season. But it’s my first guest that has me blissfully back in the studio – because amidst all the marvellously talented folks I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Mark O’Brien is one of my all-time favourites. Indeed we go way back to the first year of seaandbescene.com and his first TV series REPUBLIC OF DOYLE on which he starred as the bumbling but oh so lovable Des Courtney. And after 6 great seasons on that show shot in at home in his native NEWFOUNDLAND – Mark was off to the West Coast for a steady stream of roles in everything from AMC’S HALT AND CATCH FIRE to Denis Villeneuve‘s Oscar-winning ARRIVAL to leading roles in films like Adriana Maggs feature GOALIE which earned him a Canadian Screen Best Actor Award for his portrayel of hockey legend Terry Sawchuk. And the list goes on and on and on with a roster of onscreen credits that just hit 50 including recent rolls along side Kevin Bacon in Showtime’s CITY ON A HILL, in AMC’s gripping 61ST STREET, to his most recent turn in HBO’s Emmy Nominated PERRY MASON. And not for nothin’ but Mark is marvellous in every single performance!
So when his team reached out with the chance to chat with the man in celebration of the theatrical release of THE RIGHTEOUS written, directed and starring Mr.O’Brien… You best believe I jumped at the chance.
I had the opportunity to watch the wraught and rivoting psychological thriller when it screened during the 2021 FIN ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL and it’s ever so deserving of all the awards and critical acclaim. THE RIGHTEOUS stars the amazing Mimi Kuzyk, Newfoundland’s own Kate Corbett and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE’S Henry Czerny as “a burdened man feels the wrath of a vengeful God after he and his wife are visited by a mysterious stranger.”And that mysterious stranger is played ever so masterfully by the films producer writer, director himself so without further ado Here’s my telephone conversation with the one and only Mark O’Brien. (player at bottom of post)
You can listen to our last podcast chat with Mark here.
